PRODUCTS

Ultracor products and processes allow engineers to design specific attributes into the honeycomb from the finite element perspective.  By selecting the ideal fiber and resin combination, engineers can target and achieve performance goals unavailable in standard honeycombs like Nomex or aluminum.  Furthermore, by employing woven fabric in the design, the core becomes a vented material that will not hold localized pressure.

Ultracor's design history includes orienting fibers in specific directions to achieve enhanced mechanical or thermal performance, employing combinations of fabric and unitape to achieve such enhancements and designing and producing unitape-based honeycomb that can provide performance advantages at a cost lower than fabric.

“We design and manufacture core systems that meet the highest mechanical, structural and electromagnetic criteria.”

SPECIFIC MATERIALS TO MEET PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

Carbon Honeycomb

For the next level of mechanical and thermal performance, Ultracor developed carbon fiber honeycomb. Ultracor has manufactured carbon structural honeycomb from both pitch and PAN precursor materials.

Quartz Honeycomb

The Quartz Honeycomb core has a unique feature of low Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE). Below are comparisons of CTE in the thickness direction of various honeycomb cores.

Kevlar Honeycomb

Kevlar’s exceptional toughness, low dielectric properties and low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) make it a unique material for a variety of structural and dielectric applications, including radomes and antennas.
